The Wizard of Oz

One of my all-time favorite movies is The Wizard of Oz. The parallels between the president and the wizard are striking. You find four characters all searching for something that they think they either do not have, or cannot aquire. You have Dorothy, who just wants to go home. Then theres the scarecrow who wants a brain, the lion who wants courage, and the tin man who wants a heart.
They go on a journey to the land of Oz. When they get there, they finally come before Oz, the great and powerful! They are stricken with fear as they ask for what they want. Then that pesky little dog goes and pulls the curtain back. The truth of the great and powerful Oz is exposed. He is simply a common, average mortal who was able to portray himself as something he was not, all with the help of a machine. As I said above, the resemblences between the wizard and the president are indeed striking. I have guided a mere mortal with a talent for emotional manipulation to say exactly the right thing at the right time. The dirty little secret is that there is really no need for me, nor is there any need for the rhetoric of Barack, the great and powerful.
Dorothy, the scarecrow, the lion and the tin man all had inside of them what they had always wanted, they just never came to the realization that they had it. While policies can definitely hinder or even stop Americans from reaching thier full potential, the possibility of success that all Americans posess has nothing to do with what the man behind the curtain says or does. The ability to be whatever it is they want to be lies within each one of us. The presidents policies should unleash individual liberty, freedom, and allow each of us to be unfettered in becoming what we want to be. He will never tell you that, because he doesnt believe it.
